The Arizona Coyotes, starting a seven-game road trip, get to a great start with a win against the Colorado Avalanche.
The Coyotes started scoring with a power-play goal from Derick Brassard, at 15:04 of the first period, with assists from Clayton Keller and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, 1-0.
Jakob Chychrun’s seeing-eye shot, at 4:41 of the first period, found the back of the net making it 2-0 Coyotes.
Valeri Nichushkin of the Avalanche scored at 10:28 of the second period making the score 2-1 Coyotes.
Andre Burakovsky of the Avalanche scored at 5:07 left in the second period making the score 2-2.
The Coyotes recorded only two shots during the second period.
Darcy Kuemper left the game at the beginning of the third period and Antti Raanta stepped into the net.
Johan Larsson tipped a shot from Ekman-Larsson at 15:53 of the third, to make it 3-2 Coyotes.
Play of the Game
Phil Kessel snapped a shot up to Ekman-Larsson who had a rising shot towards Philipp Grubauer, the Avalanche goalie. With traffic in front, Johan Larsson was able to get a stick on the shot and make it drop down and into the net. The goal put the Coyotes up 3-2 in the third period and was the game-winner.
Player of the Game
Antti Raanta, who came into the game cold, was able to make 16 saves on 16 shots. He was able to keep the game under control as the Coyotes were able to keep and play with a lead.
The third howl goes to Darcy Kuemper, who stopped 17 of 19 shots before pulling himself out of the game.
The second howl goes to Antii Raanta, who stopped 16 of 16 shots after coming in cold.
The first howl goes to Johan Larsson who was able to put the Coyotes up 3-2 over the Avalanche in the third period.
