Trump wasted no time in making inflammatory remarks after the horrendous attack on Israel by referring to Hamas militants as “very smart”—Trump also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
His words also implied that if he had been president—and stated the familiar and unevidenced rant that that he was the “legitimate” president—that the attack would not have happened.
Everything is about him.
Trump also openly aired his grievances of Netanyahu and included the Israeli leader’s perceived “disloyalty” by acknowledging that Trump had lost the election.
Those who obey Trump, like Rep. Jim Jordan, the current Trump endorsed nominee for Speaker, know better than to mutiny against Donald (courthouse) Trump.
But Jordan lost his first round of voting for Speaker, and now the scramble is on to apply even more pressure on those GOP members who dared to vote against the Trump pick.
Even Fox “News” has thrown in and is trying to hold the GOP holdouts— that didn’t vote for Jordan—feet to the fire.
As of Tuesday morning, all six of Arizona’s House Republicans voted for Jordan.
Trump has managed to spawn a bunch of cowards in Arizona.
But his latest remarks regarding the attack on Israel is the most telling sign of how he would behave— and how he has behaved in the past against anyone he perceives as disloyal—the grudge is cemented and Trump will always avenge.
Of course this is not just terrible foreign policy—it’s like everything with Donald Trump, threatening, false, ludicrous and ultimately dangerous.
There’s no scenario where a Trump return to power would usher in anything but utter chaos and a complete breakdown of our democratic process.
Trump’s comments also appear to have opened the door to criticism by some of his GOP rivals who have accused him of unsuitable behavior—including a past Trump ally, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
“He’s a fool. Only a fool would make those kinds of comments,” former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has rooted his campaign in criticizing Trump’s suitability for office, told CNN last week.”
“Only a fool would make comments that could give aid and comfort to Israel’s adversary in this situation,” Christie continued. “This is someone who cares, not about the American people, not about the people of Israel, but he cares about one person and one person only, the person he sees in the mirror when he wakes up in the morning,” Christie said.
Reportedly in the past few days Trump has tried to defuse his comments about Hamas a bit mostly by attacking President Biden as the real reason for the chaos in Israel.
Except for the Trump faithful, most of the country sees through his comments and realizes that Trump’s own personal goals have always taken priority over the good of the country.
Trump first, Trump last, Trump always.
President Biden for his part, has reacted to the attack on Israel in “traditional statesmanship” including personal behind-the-scenes contacts with key foreign leaders and by mobilizing other world allies.
And unlike Trump, President Biden has taken any former political differences with Netanyahu and his administration and has discarded them because this is what a true leader does.
Biden is in constant contact with the Israeli prime minister, and is now in Israel with the prime minister.
CNN reported that “Biden is seeking to strike a balance even though he is devoted to and in support of Israel and perhaps more than any recent U.S. president has acknowledged its desire to reestablish its sense of security after one of the most shocking penetrations of its borders in 50 years.”
