Last week the Rattlers (7-3) lost a heartbreaker to the Jacksonville Sharks 54-48, closing an unfortunate 1-2 road.
They looked to turn their fortunes around at home against the Tucson Sugar Skulls (3-6).
This was the third meeting of the year between the two, they split the first two matchups.
The Rattlers got the scoring started when running back Ron Brown Jr. took it in from one-yard out to make it 7-0.
Tucson responded right back, on the last play of the first quarter, QB Jorge Reyna found wide receiver Alphonso Taylor in the endzone for nine-yard touchdown, the missed P.A.T made it 7-6 Rattlers.
Shortly after, Ron Brown Jr. found the endzone for the second time, this one from eight yards out making it 14-6.
Tucson would then turn the ball over on downs, giving the Rattlers the ball with 2:42.
The Rattlers capitalized on the mistake with yet another Ron Brown Jr. rushing touchdown, making it 21-6, with seven seconds left in the half.
Seven seconds turned out to be too much time, as Tucson’s kicker Kevin Macias drilled a 37-yard field goal to make it 21-9 heading into half.
The Rattlers started off the second half hot with two touchdowns, to give them a 34-9 lead.
From there, Tucson came roaring back.
Starting with a 26-yard-deep ball to wide receiver Tripp Harrington, making it 34-17 after the two-point conversion.
On the kickoff, Kevin Macias split the uprights for a deuce, 34-19 rattlers.
Three plays later Rattlers QB Dalton Sneed got picked off by defensive back Jamyest Williams.
Following the turnover RB Davonte Sapp-Lynch ran up the middle for a five-yard touchdown, after yet another two-point conversion, the Rattlers lead was 34-27 entering the fourth quarter.
Rattlers turned the ball over again Dalton Sneed was strip sacked and the fumble was recovered by defensive lineman Tre Henry.
A couple plays later Jorge Reyna found Davonte Sapp-Lynch in the endzone to tie the game.
The Rattlers finally responded with a Dawson Evitts 24-yard field goal to give the Rattlers the lead with 4:06 left to play.
That proved to be more than enough time for Tucson, as a scrambling Jorge Reyna found Tripp Harrington in the endzone for a four-yard touchdown. The extra point missed, making it 40-37 with 37 seconds left.
On the kickoff, receiver Isaiah Huston fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Tucson defensive back Kendrick Gladney.
The Rattlers having all three timeouts were able to force Tucson to take a 40-yard field goal.
The field goal went wide left giving the Rattlers the ball with 16.2 seconds left.
The Rattlers tied it with a 27-yard field goal from Dawson Evitts as time expired to send it to overtime.
The IFL has similar overtime rules as college, meaning if there is a score there will be a chance at rebuttal.
The Rattlers got the ball first in OT, and Corey Reed Jr. fumbled the ball recovered by the Sugar Skulls.
The Sugar Skulls with any type of score would win, and they got the chance from 34-yards out, but the kick missed. Sending it to double overtime.
The Sugar Skulls started with the ball, and capitalized, Jorge Reyna found Davonte Sapp-Lynch for a five-yard touchdown for 47-40.
The Rattlers had a successful rebuttal, when Dalton Sneed found Corey Reed in the endzone to send it to triple overtime.
Arizona got the ball first, their possession was cut short as Dalton Sneed looking deep, was once again picked off by Jamyest Williams.
The Sugar Skulls kicker got a chance to win it from 20 yards away, and Kevin Macias drilled it to win the game.
Rattlers lose 50-47.
The Rattlers had 5 turnovers in the second half.
“It’s unacceptable no better words for it, it’s lack of execution, championship teams don’t turn over the football, starts with the quarterback, starts with me I need to address it,” Sneed said.
The loss pushes the Rattlers (7-4) further out of first at 1.5 games behind Bay Area.
Rattlers go on the road next week against Bay Area to try and stop the slump.
