Phoenix Rising extended their current win streak to eight games on Saturday night with a 4-2 victory over Portland Timbers 2 at Casino Arizona Field.

Rising came out aggressively and had several sparkling shots on target go wanting—until Solomon Asante hit the back of the net with a penalty goal at 32’.  That goal put Asante in the USL record books as the only player to score a goal in 7 consecutive games.

Portland’s Christian Ojeda must have been refreshed after officials called for a safety and hydration break—as he tied the game at 37’.

Timbers 2 came out swinging in the second half and took the lead 2-1 on a Brayan Hurtado goal at 49’.

Rising defender Amadou Dia tied it back up at 62’ with an assist from A. J. Cochran.

As it turns out, Dia wasn’t done scoring as he notched what turned out to be the game-winning goal with an assist by Assante in stoppage time.  It was Dia’s second goal of the night and according to the team’s twitter page, made him the first defender in team history to score a brace of goals.

Asante showed he wasn’t done scoring either—when he got himself a brace of goals with another penalty goal at 90+7’.

Rising will next see action when they travel to Edinburg, Texas, to take on the Rio Grande Valley Toros at H-E-B Park on Saturday, July 13.
