Phoenix area residents who rely on Valley Metro buss and light rail or ride-share services like Uber or Lyft for their transportation needs could be feeling apprehensive about getting around during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Valley Metro Transit released a statement regarding their services during the outbreak.  The statement reassures riders that buses and trains are being “fogged” regularly and high-touch areas disinfected daily.

They also offered riders advice from the CDC on how to keep other passengers and employees safe in an effective matter.

The precautions they are urging passengers to abide by are washing your hands with warm water for 20 seconds, avoid touching any orifices on your person, cough into your elbows and stay home if you show any symptoms of sickness.

Valley Metro also announced in the statement that all trolley services in Scottsdale will be suspended until further notice, beginning today.

Khristopher J. Brooks reported for CBS that two weeks ago, ride-share companies Uber and Lyft vowed to financially support any drivers who were diagnosed with COVID-19 or needed to self-isolate and block individuals who had tested positive for COVID-19 from using their services.

Fox 10 Arizona reported on Mar. 17 that Uber and Lyft, have suspended all shared passenger rides (which allows multiple customers to ride together to a common destination and share the cost) in the United States, Canada, London, and Paris in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Neither company plans to suspend all services at this time and Uber will continue to offer its popular “Uber Eats”, food-delivery service.
