New vaccination site in Mesa designed to beat the heat as well as COVID-19
April 6, 2021
With temperatures approaching triple digits, vaccination sites are popping up throughout Phoenix featuring protection from the heat for patients, volunteers and equipment.
The latest vaccine facility opened Monday morning in Mesa. An indoor, drive-thru located near Loop 202 and Power Road will replace the outdoor vaccination site at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
“With the temperatures starting to push 100 degrees, we have been working to transition our vaccination sites indoors,” said Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ.
More planned facilities, along with some that are already open, will convert to overnight operation by the end of the month, according to azcentral.
People not able to secure an appointment for a vaccine can volunteer to help staff and medical professionals in the Phoenix Municipal, State Farm Stadium, Dexcom and Yuma to ensure the opportunity to be vaccinated.
Health experts plan to merge from high-volume vaccination sites to local, more community centered sites, in April and May.
In Arizona, more than 3.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered, according to the Department of Health Service’s data dashboard.
