Public pools in Mesa and Glendale will be reopening this summer

All nine public pools in Mesa will be opening on Saturday, May 29.

Last summer, because of the pandemic, only four pools opened at 50 people or less.

Mitch Carr reported for 12news.com that this summer, all pools will be open, but will still operate at a somewhat reduced capacity.

Reportedly, most of the city pools can accommodate around 300 people, but will be limited to a capacity of 220 people per 110-minute period.

120 spots per 110-minute period will be available to reserve online.  The city is encouraging prospective swimmers to reserve a time slot online by reducing the walk-up rate of $4 per adult to $2 for those who register beforehand.

The remaining 100 spots per 110-minute period will be available for those who would rather walk-in.

Swim lessons are back to full capacity.  After being limited to only three swimmers per session, this summer, classes are back to six swimmers.

The mask policy at Mesa public pools will reportedly be at your discretion.

Azfamily.com reported that because of a lifeguard shortage, Glendale will reopen its two city pools in stages.

According to the report, Foothills Aquatic Center will reopen from June 8 through July 3.

Rose Lane pool will be open from July 6 through July 31.

Both pools will offer times for open swim, lap swim and swimming lessons.

Unlike Mesa, the city of Glendale will continue to operate under social distancing and mandatory face coverings.
