Last weekend, the Rebel Lounge, 2303 E Indian School Rd., Phoenix hosted a Christmas show called “Sounds of the Season Benefit Show”, with all the proceeds going to the Salvation Army.
The show featured musical guests like Practically People, Pablo Lovetrain, and Dom Smith, but the headliner for the night was an up-and-coming band named Septooseven.
Septooseven is a band that hopes to share the true meaning of Christmas this season.
Will, the lead singer for Septooseven, spoke with Northeast Valley News about the unique backstory of the band and how music has helped him be able to channel and feel his emotions.
When Will was in the ninth grade, his sister tragically passed away on September 27, 2013.
The name Septooseven is a thoughtful way to memorialize the date and incorporate her remembrance into the band.
“She is the main inspiration for the whole thing (the band)… and also a way for me to celebrate her and to honor her and work through whatever else I need to work through,” Will said.
Her death was hard for Will and his brother Jack, but they were able to use music to battle grief and find peace through melody. They collaborate with each other between Arizona and Minnesota.
Will was responsible for putting the benefit together. He said it was important to him to give to the kids and families that may not get Christmas presents this year.
On top of that, the event was a way for him to commemorate his sister personally and publicly.
During the show, Septooseven performed covers, unreleased songs, and Christmas music. Will was accompanied on stage by a collaboration of friends. Dylan on guitar, Chris on the drums, Jack on the bass, and Kensei on saxophone.
Sounds of the Season was a fun and inclusive way to bring people together to spread community and awareness into the holiday season.
“I was touched by the event, it was a great way to set the Christmas spirit into motion,” said one concertgoer.
Septooseven are working on their debut album with hopes of releasing it in the next few months, perhaps even September 27, 2024.
