The red-hot Phoenix Suns (24-18) increased their win streak to five games with a hard-fought 117-110 victory over the Indiana Pacers (24-19) Sunday night at Footprint Center.
Kevin Durant led all scorers with 40 points and nine rebounds on a very efficient 18-of-25 from the floor.
Bradley Beal filled up 25 points, four rebounds and three assists and Devin Booker scored 26 points (9-of-24), six rebounds and nine assists.
The big three for Phoenix tonight combined to score 91 of the team’s 117 points.
“It is the definition of ‘pick your poison.’ I mean, all of us coming in with an aggressive mindset, you know it is going to be tough to stop, as you have seen. Late in the game, especially with the spacing out there. I always talk about the spacing for us. Opening up those driving lanes and getting easy ones at the rim,” Booker said postgame.
Phoenix now has a 7-4 record when Booker, Durant and Beal all take the court together.
Offense came free and easy Sunday night against the Pacers.
Thanks to Booker’s 10 first quarter points, the Suns jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first, setting the tone early and establishing a fast pace of play.
The Pacers fought back, opening up the second with a 9-0 run in the opening minute.
Former Sun Jalen Smith (13 points) knocked down two threes and a mid-range jump shot to get them right back in the game.
Indiana was able to keep pace for a majority of the contest even without their all-star point guard Tyrese Haliburton (hamstring maintenance) who was ruled out just prior to the game.
Indiana’s bench unit was the story of the game Sunday night, single handedly keeping them in the contest by outscoring the Suns bench 55-9.
The Suns managed to stretch their lead back to 10 points with 2:28 remaining in the second and went into halftime leading 65-61.
Newly acquired from the Toronto Raptors, Pascal Siakim (15 points) made an impact in his second game for Indiana.
Rookie forward Jarace Walker (10 points and nine rebounds) was also making important plays on both ends of the floor for Indiana.
The Pacers as a whole were defending well and seemed to have an answer each time Phoenix tried to pull away.
As a result of their tenacious play, Buddy Hield (5-of-8 3P) hit a 3-pointer with 3:20 left to put the Pacers up 105-103.
It was a back-and-forth finish in crunch time with both teams throwing haymakers at each other.
Bradley Beal (11-of-16) eventually took matters into his own hands hitting back-to-back drives to the basket and later, another to put the game to bed.
“I want to highlight Bradley Beal—when we needed a bucket in the fourth, on a couple different possessions, he came through and made some big buckets and some big defensive plays as well and (Devin) Booker was great too. The three of them really stepped up, had great composure in the fourth,” head coach Frank Vogel said postgame.
The Suns look to keep the momentum going as they host the Chicago Bulls (21-23) tomorrow night at Footprint Center at 7:00 p.m.
