Pickleball has become the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and perhaps the world.
Daily Infographic reported in October, 2023 that participation in pickleball had risen 171% since 2019.
PURE Pickleball is a new company working with real estate developer CaliberCo to build one of the largest venues in the world, for people to both watch and play pickleball.
The new 11-acre facility is slated to open this fall in Riverwalk at Loop 101 and Talking Stick Way in Scottsdale.
It will be the new headquarters for the sport’s governing body, USA Pickleball, as well as the training facility for the U.S national team.
PURE Pickleball will feature comforts not before seen in the sport, including a 500-seat championship stadium along with 28 indoor courts equipped with high-quality video for re-play and streaming purposes.
Future phases will include 16 outdoor courts, a clubhouse with bar and restaurant along with two rooftop courts, among other amenities.
Brian Snider, Senior Vice President, Real Estate for Caliber commented about the project in a Nov. 2023 press release announcing the new facility.
“The demand for pickleball continues to exceed all expectations…we are very excited to be a part of this project and believe there is strong interest in the opportunity to invest in such a promising venture,” Snider said.
In the same press release, Chief Operating Officer for USA Pickleball, Justin Maloof, announced their plans to move into the new facility.
“Over the past year, the PURE Pickleball team has engaged with us on their ambitious plans to create an entirely new class of pickleball venue…At this time, we are announcing PURE Pickleball is our intended future home, permanent headquarters and official National Training Center for USA Pickleball,” Maloof said.
Northeast Valley News found out that not only professionals, but also recreational players are excited about the new venue.
Donna Church is a tennis player that has converted to pickleball.
“Having a large venue for people to gather and grow the sport will help the Phoenix valley realize how fun and fast this sport is growing…I don’t think it will be too far out until we start to see these venues in most major cities,” Church said.
Allison Manley is a pickleball coordinator at the Gainey Village gym. She has seen people from all walks of life come to play,
“I see kids from three to five years old starting lessons here at Gainey Village. It’s a sport that everybody can play—it’s an easier sport to pick up quickly,” Manley said.
