Reports from Newsweek to CNN to Jon Stewart to Jimmy Kimmel—they’re all covering the hush-money criminal trial of Donald J. Trump, but some are also covering the former president’s conduct during his trial, from falling asleep to…well, farting in the courtroom.
Reports from the courtroom have cited in the past few days Donald Trump’s repeated farting during the trial proceedings.
Among the legion of documents and lawsuits about the former president’s misdeeds— alleged and otherwise, Northeast Valley News wanted to know why the passing of gas in court by Trump is the trending story and capturing the most attention by far.
We went downtown to ask Arizonans what they think about Trump’s reported farting in court.
“So, not ok, said Eva Banov, a fitness trainer from Phoenix who was taking a lunch break in Patriots Square Park Monday. “It’s like farting in church…are you kidding?” “I mean that’s disgusting and it shows his lack of respect. No reverence or respect for the court. I mean we’re all used to his stupid stuff, but this is beyond indecent, court is supposed to be kind of sacred, the judge should throw him out.”
We asked more than 20 people if they were shocked or surprised that reports from the courtroom allege that Donald Trump is farting during his trial proceedings.
One man declined to give his name but told Northeast Valley News (chuckling) “Trump is Trump, if he has to fart, I guess he has to fart, but not a good look at all, not a good look—bathroom break?”
Women were not as forgiving as men of Trump’s farting.
But one woman laughingly punched her husband’s arm and said, “See?…farting around other people is awful, if Trump does it, it’s bad,” the conversation suggested that a “fart” debate had taken place in their own family.
“Everything he does is disgusting and is a blatant slap in the face to anything decent,” said Dawn Turner an administrative assistant for the City of Phoenix. “Honestly, I can’t even watch him or listen to anything he has to say and no, I’m not surprised that he would have zero regard for the people sitting around him—isn’t one of his attorney’s a woman? But why would he care about a woman?”
The majority of the people from the unscientific survey responded that it was pretty disgusting but not exactly surprising because it’s usual Trump behavior.
Most admitted that the image of Trump farting takes away from any kind of honorable presidential perception—the unflattering image might be hard to forget.
Others asked just shook their heads or uttered, “Wow, didn’t know that,” “That’s gross,” or “Why am I not surprised?”
Late night host, Jimmy Kimmel, is seen as one of Trump’s many obsessions—a frequent topic of the former president’s social media rants. On Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday night, Kimmel showcased Trump’s “laughable” criminal trial and offered up several of his own scenarios as to why Trump’s defense doesn’t add up.
“Trump’s lawyers made it clear that they will continue to deny that the former president had sex with Daniels.” “If I was prosecuting this case, I could get him to admit that in one second,” said Kimmel. “All you have to do is say, ‘Clearly, Mr. Trump was not attractive, famous or wealthy enough to entice such a desirable adult film star.’ He’d jump up on his hands and knees and show you every position they did it in.”
“This is the first time we’ve ever seen a former president up on criminal charges,” Kimmel noted. “But what resonates most, from a historical perspective at least,” is a report from podcaster Ben Meiselas that Trump was “farting in the courtroom”.
“Just when you think the insane-o-meter has topped out, Donald Trump adds farting to his list of atrocities,” Kimmel mused. “We’re in uncharted territory here.”
Jon Stewart is not only covering the Trump criminal trial but is aggressively covering the media covering the trial—and he’s not happy with the U.S. media.
During his Monday night guest host of The Daily Show, Stewart launched a bevy of criticism on the media’s obsession with covering every move Trump makes.
“At this point, you’re probably saying to yourself, ‘How many television hours have they devoted to what Donald Trump, a man who has not been off any of our screens for more than 30 seconds in the last eight years, looks like?’ The answer is not nearly as many hours as describing his every movement,” he added.
With a stern warning Stewart made very purposeful eye contact with the camera and reminded the media that there may be a price to pay for the constant Trump coverage.
“We’ve got a long ways to go here,” he continued. “It’s the first day of the first of his 438 trials to come. Pace yourselves, and if you’re bored, you can always start planning how you’re going to fuck up covering his next trial and the sober mea culpa you’ll deliver during his next term as president
