In an opinion poll conducted by Northeast Valley News over the weekend, 42% of the random selection of people answered “no” to the same question posed, “Should Biden drop out of the race after the debate?”
Northeast Valley News conducts opinion or random polling using a set of “interview” questions with people selected at random in the Valley. Everyone is asked the same question/s and the responses are tallied.
Any kind of change in the current Democratic presidential candidate at this point, according to former White House press secretary Jen Psaki on her MSNBC show “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sunday, “would come with major risks and sew division within the party.”
“First of all, it would have a seismic impact on the Democratic Party if the president stayed neutral and did not endorse his own vice president,” Psaki said. “It would also mean a couple of thousand party insiders would be empowered to make a choice on the nominee, not the millions of Democratic primary ballots who already cast their ballots.”
The majority of those questioned in Northeast Valley News random opinion poll over the weekend pretty much agreed with Psaki’s assessment.
“There are plenty of people with their ‘hair on fire’ over Biden’s performance but honestly, everyone needs to get over it—it was a bad debate for Biden—but Trump is a madman,” said Dennis Keaman, an Independent but former registered Republican.
“For a long time I thought the Republican Party had just temporarily retreated and lost their way from the values and ideals I held as a fiscal conservative, but I changed party affiliation after Trump and his ‘off the rails’ manifestos of the MAGA’s—they’re really beyond belief frankly.”
Some within the Democratic Party however are worried over Biden’s debate and the scurrying has been fast and loud in recent days over the concern that Trump may win and lead the country for the next four years—or longer as Trump has reportedly hinted at in the past.
Still, Biden’s most ardent supporters including Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor, Gavin Newsome are both standing in full support of President Biden.
Some Democrats have called on Biden to step down following the debate performance but no national officials have publicly joined the call.
Biden has already won the primary and thus cannot be overthrown at the convention, meaning the decision is ultimately up to him.
“It would all be very messy and potentially very divisive,” Psaki said on MSNBC. “But right now, it still feels very unlikely,” given first lady Jill Biden, Democratic leaders in Congress and former President Obama are all standing behind him.
Reportedly the White House and the Biden campaign have in recent days begun to shut down any notion that Biden will step aside or drop out of the race.
Nicole Talish told Northeast Valley News, “I think that people know that there are those who are going to vote for Donald Trump no matter what he does or says, but I don’t believe that number is as high as many think and I believe it would be disastrous for President Biden to step down and be replaced at this point. Plus—I heard what he said yesterday, and he’s right when he said,“I have been leading this country, and I know how to do it.”
