Mark Kelly is pro-choice, pro-women’s health and reproductive rights, his wife “Gabby” Giffords, former U.S. Representative from Arizona barely survived an assassination attempt in 2011 and while she has thrived it has not been without long-term rehabilitation and some life-changing consequences.
Of course Kelly is in favor of reasonable gun control measures in a country out of control with unlimited gun access.
He is respected across party lines including border patrol agents and law enforcement officers.
Kelly is adored by veterans as he served our country honorably.
He’s an astronaut (yes, an astronaut) a loyal husband and loving father—and many Arizonans hope he’s willing to join the Democratic ticket with Harris in order to get this country back on track and beat the dark dictatorship that looms.
Joe simply needs to go.
I hate to say it—many of us hate to say it because President Biden has been a good president and has tried to better things for hard working Americans—but it’s time for him to graciously step aside.
Two choices for Dems—bumping Vice President Kamala Harris to the top of the ticket or holding an open convention, there are many challenges facing democrats and indeed our democracy and freedom.
There may be choices but there is one reality—the country will not survive Trump, the MAGA movement and Project 2025 running our government.
Mark Kelly is from a swing state (that’s us Arizona) and his personal story is a compelling one.
He is respected for his military service, his general appeal to the public is top notch, he would be respectful and loyal working alongside Harris and he’s just a good man.
Imagine that, a good man.
Kelly is seen as a centrist and his ability to reach across partisan lines is unsurpassed.
He supports civil rights and human rights for all Americans.
Another possible advantage if Mark Kelly was placed on the Democratic ticket…one could easily see Democrat Ruben Gallego securing the much needed Senate seat Sen. Kyrsten Sinema relinquished and finally, once and for all, would end the candidacy of the infamous election denier and crier, Kari Lake.
A bit about Mark Kelly’s upbringing: it’s nothing short of the American dream. He was born in New Jersey to two police officers. Yep, both Kelly’s dad and mom were police officers. Pretty cool.
He attended public schools and received his college degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He later added a Masters in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. Living in the Naval Observatory would just make sense.
This reporter covered the late Senator John McCain on many occasions and can say without reservation that Senator Mark Kelly was highly respected by McCain.
Would Kelly want the job?
Well, let’s hope so.
As one of the 100 senators who can potentially break ties in the Senate—Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs could also name a replacement to the senate seat should Kelly vacate it.
He stands for decency from start to finish.
It should be noted that Kelly has never made any kind of “play” for this possibility. In a recent interview when asked about President Biden’s performance Kelly said, “My expectation is we’re going to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and added, “To go back to the Donald Trump administration would be a huge mistake.”
Kelly is also one of four Democrats who are outpolling Biden by five points in key battleground states.
