U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called Donald Trump “a terrible human being” the “worse {sic} president ever” and “barely human.”
So, what happened?
RFK Jr. also said in texts to an unnamed person according to the New Yorker, “He (Trump) is probably a sociopath.”
Reportedly, RFK Jr. was recently linked to a job if a second Trump administration were to happen.
Kennedy’s decision to endorse Trump has been met with condemnation from at least five of Kennedy’s siblings who are still alive. Kerry Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy each signed a letter that called their brother’s endorsement a “betrayal.”
Jack Schlossberg, the 31-year-old grandson of John F. Kennedy, also mocked his cousin’s decision. “Never been less surprised in my life,” he said. “Been saying it for over a year—RFKjr is for sale, works for Trump, bedfellows and loving it.”
“Kamala Harris is for the people—the easiest decision of all time, just got easier,” said Schlossberg.
Adding to the recent turn of events was a reported phone call between Trump and RKF Jr that was recorded, videotaped and posted online by the independent candidate’s own son.
Kennedy Jr. apologized to Trump on Tuesday, after his son posted video and audio of a call between the two men in which Trump made some odd remarks about vaccines, babies and horses as well as appearing to offer Kennedy some sort of political deal.
Later Kennedy offered an apology for the taping and the releasing of the call with Trump.
“When President Trump called me, I was taping with an in-house videographer,” Kennedy said. “I should have ordered the videographer to stop recording immediately. I am mortified that this was posted. I apologized to the president.”
It’s reported that the call was made before Trump and Kennedy’s meeting on Monday at the Republican national convention in Milwaukee, allegedly to discuss the possibility of Kennedy endorsing Trump.
Even before Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump, some bizarre stories emerged in recent weeks about Kennedy notably, that he admitted to dumping the body of a bear cub in New York City’s Central Park in 2014—an incident that caused a police animal cruelty investigation but was never solved.
Add in Kennedy’s own admission in May that he had a brain worm—paired with his inability to coax his way on to a debate stage— speculating that these did not help the independent candidate’s struggling campaign.
RFK’s campaign were reportedly showing signs of fray before the Trump endorsement and Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, made sure she emphasized to their supporters on Friday that she’s “not a Trump Republican.”
She did not appear at her ex-running mate’s address.
There were signs of late that suggested a rift between Shanahan, 38, and her now-former running mate. She notably had $925,000 refunded to her from her own campaign last month.
