Many people in the Valley know about First Fridays in downtown Phoenix each month— but a cool, hidden little secret lies in Cheba Hut’s “Sparkin Market” held in downtown Chandler the last Saturday of every month.
Jazztiene Lariosa, the marketing manager for Cheba Hut, is in charge of running the market and says that some of her favorite things about her gig are “the customer engagement, bringing the community together and being able to create partnerships with other brands.”
Cheba Hut gets transformed each month into something similar to an indoor farmers market, with tables moved out for dining and vendors moved in, lined against the walls and other space for shoppers to purchase their local, hand-made items, art, creative work, clothing, specialty and themed items. Small local vendors such as “Dungeons and Domes” as well as popular names like Stiizy and Jeeter are also featured inside the open shopping market.
But the headliner is probably the live music during Sparkin Market when every couple of hours a new performer steps ups to play everything from dubstep to acoustic sets and everything in between.
While shopping, attendees can also order the “Jeeter Sandwich—a specialty sandwich that, when ordered in store, receive another Jeeter with their order—Jeeter sandwiches change every month.
The Oct. 26, Sparkin Market features a Halloween costume prize and the Zombie Pub Crawl and promises to be “Full of Fun and Spooky activities”—and, according to their Facebook posting:
“Registration for Zombie Crawl begins at 6:30 pm and closes at 7:00 pm at Lola’s Liquors located at 64 S. San Marcos Pl. Chandler, AZ 85225. During registration attendees will receive a Zombie Crawl pin to identify them and other pub crawlers as well as maps for all the Zombie Pub Crawl locations. Each location will be offering $4 specialty drinks and a screaming good time.”
