Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug has been delivering unforgettable performances of good vibes, vivid, uncut, storytelling and charismatic personality on his Take Care Tour.
A former football star who was kicked out of junior college for smoking weed, BigX reportedly wrote songs in solitary confinement while in jail for illegal possession of weapons and marijuana.
But his ability to connect with his audiences is uncanny and in large part over his lived experiences as well as his proud Texas swagger.
One of his last stops at the Nile Theatre in Mesa during his Take Care Tour left fans with a deeper love for the up-and- coming artist on the hip-hop scene.
Known for rich, raw lyrics, and a charismatic stage presence, BigX had the crowd vibing from the first beat drop to the final encore.
He’s gained unbridled traction in the hip-hop world with his unique style that blends old funk samples and southern rap with modern trap influences.
BigX according to Spin, reportedly displays some of his best writing on the hit, “Texas,” casually condensing decades of Texas music and cultural history.
“Since I’ve been doing music, [everything’s] been a blur,” BigX explains, speaking from a Dallas studio on a recent weekday afternoon. In just three years, he’s gone from releasing music in obscurity to hitting over 100 million global streams, his weekends now packed with headlining shows at Texas venues and opening spots for rappers like Maxo Kream and Key Glock. “I’m constantly moving. I’m never just sitting still. I don’t know what time it be or what day it is.”
The Nile, a historic Mesa venue beloved by locals for its intimate atmosphere was packed with fans in early Dec. and many came from across the Valley to see the rapper for the first time.
From the moment BigX hit the stage, it was clear why his buzz has been growing steadily.
His unique blend of hard-hitting beats and passionate narratives made an immediate connection with the audience, as fans rapped along with hits like “2 AM” and “MMHMM.”
“I’ve been a fan of BigX since he first came out, so I was super excited when I found out he was doing a show in Phoenix. I got my tickets right away,” Jen Kalinosky of Mesa told Northeast Valley News.
BigX says he’s driven by his children and isn’t afraid to share uncensored thoughts and feelings in combination with a potent mix of gospel, trap, blues and even country.
