It’s time to tickle your funny bone! North Phoenix welcomes the business of humor with the opening of Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy. Bronson, a comedian and President of Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy wants to be known as the funny guy with the recipe for making people laugh.

House of Comedy opened their doors on Thursday, September 4. With no comedy clubs in the North Phoenix area Bronson said, “I think High street is going about it in the right direction by trying to secure a lot of restaurants and entertainment venues like myself that can bring a spark to the North valley.”

The venue will seat over 300 guests and ticket prices will vary based on performers. An interesting feature that will set House of Comedy apart from other other local comedy clubs is the addition of popular Canadian dishes to the food menu and the absence of a two-drink minimum.  Bronson, who admits he is a bit of a foodie, said the menu is influenced by his upbringing in Montreal, Canada and will feature one of his favorite dishes, “Poutine” which he refers to as a heart attack on a plate.

Poutine, is a Canadian comfort food made up of fries with cheese curd and warm gravy poured over it.  Bronson said, “I am interested to see how well that goes over with the healthy Phoenix, Scottsdale area.

Local comedians will have the opportunity to perform at House of Comedy as an MC, a feature act or a co-feature on a show. Phoenix- based comedian Matt Storrs (storrscomedy.com) will host the opening.  Storrs who is no stranger to performing in the valley he has performed at the Tempe Improv, Stand up Live, Cobb’s Comedy club in San Francisco, the Burbank Comedy festival and was a semi-finalist in Arizona Funniest Comedian Competition.  Storrs a sharp dresser wears colored glasses and fine pressed suits on stage and describes his comedy style as a mixture of one liners, weird, strange, intelligent and non sequitur.

In the future there will be opportunities for local comedians like Storrs to participate at open mic nights on Monday and Tuesdays.

One of the most important objectives at House of Comedy is to retain intimacy within the theater so the audience feels that they are part of the show. “We strive to make sure that you don’t feel like you are at home watching comedy on TV. We make sure we are giving that live experience so the audience gets that energy and excitement you can only create in a room like this,” Bronson said.

Peter Nothnagle restaurant manager of Kona Grill is excited to have House of Comedy move into the neighborhood. “We are extremely excited I think it’s going to be great for high street and basically all the restaurants and businesses here on high street,” Nothnagle said.

Kona Grill is working with House of Comedy to offer their guests a special “dinner and a show” preset menu. This will allow guests a choice of an appetizer, entrée and tickets to see the comedy show.
Bronson is also interested in teaming up with additional businesses along High Street and suggests that visitor’s keep their eyes open for possible after show deals.

“I am an entertainer and the people we bring in are entertainers and all we really want to do is entertain the hell out of Phoenix and the surrounding areas,” Bronson said.
