Fashion Battles it out on the runway at FAB Weekend Event
September 18, 2014
Fashion designers, dramatic makeup, full figured bridal attire, plus size fashions, and outrageous hair styles wowed the crowd at the second annual FAB Weekend event.
F.A.B is fashion, art and beauty together on one stage for one day of competition bringing fashion designers, hairstylist and makeup artist together to showcase their unique creativity on the runway.
Terrance Hudson, founder of FAB Weekend and barber with over 20 years of experience started doing hair shows in Chicago. “Just wanted to put the fashion part into the show have fashion designers think outside the box and come together to do this event” Hudson said.
The talent is local but this year competing designers and hairstylist have come from Las Vegas and California for top prize $500 and a trophy. A few of the business featured at this year’s show were Love and Lace Lingerie Boutique, Big Plus Fashion Stores, Wild Siren Fashion Haus and Strut Bridal Boutique.
Designers are not restricted to a specific set of guidelines they are given free range to express their vision, create their own themes and add in a few surprises to wow the audience.
Seasoned stylist, designers and up and coming talent competed in the Hair show, Blazing Curves plus size fashion show and Model Wars the main feature of the night.
Kathy Blaze Jefferson, co-owner of FAB Weekend and owner of Blazing Curves full figured fashion show started Blazing Curves to help women celebrate their bodies. In an industry where being thin is in “Guys love what I am doing for the full figured women, I’m not promoting obesity I’m promoting self-love” Jefferson said.
Jefferson has been a working plus size model and owner of Blazing Curves for three years but at times finds it difficult to get work. “Being an entertainer here in Arizona and not finding any work having to leave the state to get work as a plus size model that is what started me working and creating shows here in Arizona” Jefferson said.
Deb Blaney, first time model is overcoming self-esteem issues and was introduced to Jefferson by her acting teacher. Blaney not happy with the way she looks not liking her smile realized she has what it takes to model after speaking with Jefferson and seeing her confidence. “I am wearing a one piece lingerie little nervous to make sure it doesn’t slip up behind the booty but I think we got that covered just a little self-conscious” Blaney said. Nerves aside Blaney worked the fashion runway from every angle for photographers like a professional model.
Looking to expand next year’s show to Texas and back to the mid-west where it originated from. Hudson and Jefferson are working toward the FAB Awards for November 2015. The FAB Awards will have over 30 categories which will include hairstylist of the year, makeup artist of the year, photographer of the year, fashion blogger of the year and natural hair artist of the year.
