The young teen who spoke with Northeast Valley News and advised that, “They’re just haters, we’re used to them, and we don’t care about them,” is one among the massive base of young Taylor Swift fans. 

But Swift fans sweep across all ages and boasts of one of the most diverse demographics of any mega superstar.

Statistics report that “about 33 percent of respondents aged 30-44 old stated that they considered themselves Taylor Swift fans, more than one in 10 respondents aged 65 or older stated the same.” 

So what’s with all the conspiracy theories about Swift from the MAGA’s—in addition to Trump’s own (like always) rude remarks regarding the megastar? 

Ever since her relationship with Travis Kelce made headlines everywhere and when the couple was frequently mentioned at the one place that is apparently hallowed ground for MAGA’s—nationally televised NFL games— where Swift is often shown supporting her Kansas City Chiefs boyfriend—the couple have become a prime target of MAGA hate and MAGA lies. 

Kelce and Swift have been subjected to insane criticism by the MAGA bunch and are now “co-conspira-sized” over outrageous and unevidenced claims. 

Let’s go ahead and call the lunacy over Swift from the MAGA extremists what it really is.

The very idea that… (lower voice and speak macho) “a football player” would date a beautiful superstar who unapologetically and enthusiastically supports the LGBTQ+ communities and speaks out fervently against racism, and yes, publicly endorsed Joe Biden in the last presidential election (which is her right to do) and has an exploding fan base of all ages and demographics along with 275 million followers—just on Instagram—makes the MAGA’s crazy. 

They can’t handle it. 

So they’ve created a government plot theory and they’re spewing and spitting every kind of ludicrous claim they can—and the drumbeat will continue in the months ahead of the presidential election. 

Their hate is on full display. 

Right-wing pundits on conservative radio and television “news” shows allege that Swift is part of an elaborate “Cyops” (psychological operations) where she and boyfriend Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are working in sync with the government—namely the Biden administration, to basically brainwash her fan base into voting Democratic. 

The Swift conspiracy theories have now gone nuclear and are described by most Americans and even some moderate Republicans as a full scale “MAGA meltdown.” 

But the extreme right-wingers are serious believers and they’re on a mission. 

It would be laughable if it wasn’t also— unfortunately—dangerous.

The scary part—the wheels are in motion for the unhinged MAGA’s to say (or do) anything—a realization that has a lot of people troubled. 

Hate crimes and hate speech have exploded since the MAGA movement. 

A continual onslaught of online hate, abuse and threats—growing violent crimes from identified MAGA/Trump supporters have been reported, and inciting threats and hate rhetoric online which include former president Trump calling Mexicans “drug dealers, criminals and rapists during his 2016 campaign; amid false claims that migrant “caravans” from Central America contained terrorists; as well as the defense of White militia violence in 2020—and the list goes on. 

And, now MAGA’s are creating hysteria about the most outlandish conspiracies they can dream up to try and detract from Swift’s popularity and Kelce is along for the proverbial ride. 

Some of Swift’s youngest fans may not fully grasp the enormity of these newest haters though. 

As one “Swiftie” 14-year old Frankie Bengtson put it, “I mean a lot of people like to reduce her to who she’s involved with currently—I mean you know, she’s happy and they’re just being haters.” 

“I became a huge fan since Red (Taylor’s version)—a re-release of her 2012 album Red and ever since that came out, I became a big fan,” Bengtson said.

Bengtson and other Swifties are just fans. They love her music. They love her passion. They love that she’s genuine and is willing to be vulnerable and speak out in defense of those without voice while revealing her own human experiences of pain and joy. And now even her fans are part of the victimization of the MAGA’s hate campaign. 

“There’s been like all different types of haters of Taylor Swift—um, the Golden Globes jokes—and I mean she just became a billionaire,” Bengtson said. 

The 14-year-old had something to say to MAGA’s about Swift’s support of LGBTQ+ communities.

“I mean, in her music video, “You Need To Calm Down” it basically covered all that—it’s just like, it doesn’t concern you. If you have problem with that, it’s like your own problem. It’s crazy to think that they’re coming after a person supporting a community—a minority—it doesn’t make sense, and she has a huge platform and is just vocalizing her support. It doesn’t make sense that anyone would come after the LGBTQ+ communities,” Bengtson said. 

Out of the mouths of babes, eh?

Bengtson may be a 14-year-old, but she speaks with the wisdom of someone much older.  

But wait…what about the more senior fans of the superstar that also have a dog in this fight?

45-year old Serena Cabrera would appreciate it if the MAGA conspiracy people would just, “Shut the *expletive* up.”

“What is up with these weirdo’s? I mean seriously. I fell in love with Taylor Swift on my own but when my daughter became a serious fan, it only added to my enjoyment of being of ‘Swiftie’ mom.”

“You know what…Taylor Swift is about women’s (and girls) empowerment—maybe that’s what it’s really all about. Either way, I don’t get it, and we don’t give a you know what anyway because they look like a bunch of loco’s,” Cabrera said. 

One man who identified as a Trump supporter, asked Northeast Valley News not to publish his name but repeated another MAGA conspiracy swirling around an ad that Travis Kelce taped with his mom in order to remind people to get their flu shots and the latest COVID-19 vaccination.  

MAGA’s see this as an affront to anti-vaxxers everywhere and more “proof” that Swift and Kelce are in cahoots with liberals. 

“Biden probably told him to do that commercial,” the man said.

Or—maybe Kelce just wants to help save lives.
