Stage set, lights dimmed and in the standing room only “Show Me” Showcase 2024 event in Phoenix, a camaraderie of fandom filled the venue with dance movement talent by highly sought choreographer, Jenzi Russell. 

The night did not disappoint. 

Russell, a Valley native, “found his passion for choreography early in life and was inspired by inspired by some of our generations’ greatest choreographers & creative directors like Frank Gatson, Laurie Ann Gibson & Fatima Robinson,” according to his online bio. 

The dance movement sensation (Jenzi) Russell has choreographed for Wale for a simulcasted performance for the BET Experience and ESPN’s Sports Center. As well as a special feature on TLC’s hit show “My Fat Fabulous Life,” and most recently Russell was the face of Grammy Award winning music legend Macy’s Gray’s newest video “Stop, Drop & Roll” directed by industry veteran Guido Fabris. 

Russell is quickly becoming the go to choreographer for the biggest showcase’s, fashion shows and concert events and in Arizona like the show over the weekend Russell rising national sensation in dance. 

The “Show Me” Showcase 2024, held over the weekend at the Stratus Event Center, brought together some of Arizona’s most talented choreographers and dancers and radiated enthusiasm positivity and energy. 

Hip-hop to modern contemporary pieces, to jazz heels, the diverse styles showcased the depth of talent within the community. 

“Bre” one of Russell’s dancers said from the stage, “I say, put yourself out there no matter what… if you think people are laughing at you, looking at you, you are who’s going to write your story,” a message that summed up the night’s sprit.” 

Another dancer did just that— by putting themselves on stage and incorporating a surprise marriage proposal into their routine, catching everyone in the room off guard—resulting in cheers when the answer was “yes,” adding an extra layer of excitement. 

The “Show Me” Showcase 2024 not only highlighted the talent of dancers but also served as a reminder of the importance of self-expression and authenticity. 

Russell’s own vision brought together a community that includes courage and creativity. 

The event marked a significant moment in the local dance scene, leaving attendees eager for the next dance showcase.
