Following last spring semester, which ended in mid-May, the class designation for Digital News Production at Scottsdale Community College was changed to JRN 210 and renamed News and Media Production.

Students who register for News and Media Production will receive training in news writing, video production and audio production and be eligible to produce content for the organization’s student-run and written digital news site, nevalleynews.org.

News and Media Production routinely serves as a springboard for students wishing to transfer to ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication by providing practical experience that can be directly applied to their coursework at the next level.

Students wishing to advance directly into the media industry will find access to numerous internship opportunities with several Valley media and sports organizations, including the Arizona Republic.

News and Media Production offers a unique opportunity for on-the-job training in a variety of formats.  Most students sign up for the course over multiple semesters in order to gain additional and varied experience in podcasting/broadcasting, videography, photojournalism and news writing.

Students seeking instructor permission to enroll should contact Janet Richards by email at janet.richards@scottsdalecc.edu.
