The Arizona Fall League season is underway and fans are excited to see who will be an impact player on their favorite team.

If you follow the Scottsdale Scorpions, you need look no further than the Boston Red Sox No. 4 prospect Nick Yorke.

The middle infielder was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft.

Yorke played most of the last two seasons with High-A Greenville. While with the Drive, he posted impressive numbers in year one, but hit a slump the following season.

He is currently not on the MLB pipeline’s top 100 prospect list, but started the 2022 season featured at No. 96.

“To be honest with you, I don’t really care what other people have to think,” Yorke said.  “I’m on the Red Sox, so when the Red Sox think I’m ready… I’m trying to make the big league squad, not the Top 100 List.”

Even though the Scorpions are the only AFL team without any players on the Top 100, it does not mean they won’t be competitive or offer their players valuable experience.

“Being around the best of the best players and the best of the best coaches,” Yorke said. “I’m just trying to learn.”

On teams built from prospects across the League, players enjoy seeing a friendly face or two.

“I’ve actually played against Henry-Malloy (Atlanta) and Cal Conley (Atlanta) during the year, so we’ve built a little relationship just talking on the bases and during the games… I’m excited to play with them.”

AFL fans may wonder where the players live during the season.  Many likely assume they reside in hotel rooms bought by the MLB.  But Yorke explained the living arrangements to Northeast Valley News.

“They put us up in apartments up in Tempe, over by the campus (ASU) — so it’s a nice little spot,” Yorke said.

Yorke may already have the makings of a future MLB star on paper, but he is still looking to take advantage of the playing time he will get this season in with the Scorpions.

For Yorke, it’s a chance to show the ability to bounce back from a season that he describes as, “Not the season I wanted to have personally”, and show that he’s a player to look out for this season and enjoy watching for many to come.
