Be The Girl, a live heel performance featuring singing and choreographed dancing, was held on February 28th at Walter Studios.
Producer and host, Jenzi Russell, presented the show.
The 18+ event showcased the talents of dance groups and other performers.
More than 150 dancers from different groups came together to show their talents.
The event included live performances, an open bar, and local small businesses.
The show featured performers and groups such as KLO Choreography, Daddyonce and Almara Dance Company.
Each group and individual performed their dances to the music of The Weeknd, BIA, and Parris Goebel.
Drag queen Donatello Daniels sang and danced to “Lose Control” by Missy Elliot, an act enjoyed by all in the audience.
Singer Parrish Allen took the stage, performing his own music with a group of backup dancers behind him. He threw roses out to the crowd near the end of his performance.
Dancer Carmela Barrera told Northeast Valley News the show is chaotic, but it’s an “adrenaline rush” she loves.
“I’m asthmatic—breathing—getting through it with glitter and sass,” Barrera said
The crowd was very interactive — cheering throughout the show for every act.
The clothing styles were all different, from button-ups to bodysuits—and notably, one group, Janet Experience, was seen dressed as female pimps for their performance.
One of the performers, Lala, presented a mix of hip-hop and pole dancing, with dancers performing on one side of the stage and a dancer scaling a pole on the other.
Group Mely C’s dancers included their choreographer, Melissa Casas, also known as “Mely Cee,” dancing on stage to reggaeton.
Casas told Northeast Valley News, “Gotta give em’ a little something different—some spiciness and representing.”
Casas expressed that she was amazed by all the other performances and that seeing other dancers inspires her passion for dancing.
One of Casas’ students, Khadijah Lewis, said, “Every set is so different, and I think that it’s actually beautiful—so many different sets—so many different techniques.”
Even after the show ended, the night did not end. Jenzi hosted an after-party at Spin Room in Phoenix to end the night.
