Up and coming alternative R&B and bedroom pop artist Malcolm Todd is set to release his third full-length album, “Do That Again,”—his second studio album.
Todd originally gained traction after his music started gaining popularity on TikTok.
The album to thank for this breakthrough was his debut, “Sweet Boy”, released in 2024. Notable songs that added to his viral popularity are “Chest Pain (I Love)”, “Earrings”, and “Roommates”.
He is currently signed to Columbia Records, a major frontline label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, following his initial online success.
On Spotify, Todd averages 30 million monthly listeners and is frequently seen in the Billboard top 50 in the United States.
“Do That Again” has 13 tracks with a runtime of 35 minutes and some change.
Fans are already familiar with two songs from the album, “Breathe” and “I Saw Your Face”.
Both songs were strategically released prior to the album to give fans a preview of what to expect.
When told by Interview Magazine’s Ary Russell that these two tracks were a “really good reflection” of the album, Todd responds with, “that’s what I wanted.”
This album begins with lyrics from track one, “Jean Skirt”, and track two, “Obsessica”, two songs which set the tone for the album to be rather intimate and lustful.
As the album goes on, by track five, “I See Your Face”, it takes a complete 180º as if Todd, rather than wanting to sleep with anyone, merely misses one person and wishes he had never broken it off to pursue his fame.
By the time Todd shifts the vibe of his album after a few songs, the messages throughout become relatable for frequent listener Charlotte Dominguez.
“Malcolm’s new album feels like when I lay in bed late at night and am overthinking. It kinda has a soft vibe to it and is weirdly comforting even though it’s kinda of messy emotionally. It reminds me of being stuck on someone and trying to move on at the same time, which is probably why it hits so hard for me.”
After my initial listen, the album was just another one I could pick a few songs out of to add to my daily music rotation, but after the second listen, you can truly hear that Todd tries to put his heart on his sleeve through his music.
Despite the tone difference between the two halves of the album, the instrumental never lacks, and Todd’s melodious vocals are present and consistent throughout. Going from very lewd and horny to rather heartbroken and not ready to move on, yet is ready to “Do That Again”.
Overall, the album follows the style of Todd’s already well-known albums and adds to his impressive, catchy tracklist and discography.
Any Malcolm Todd fan is already waiting for a nationwide tour announcement and the ticket presale to go with it. However, as his popularity continues to rise, true fans had better prepare for the ticket war to come.
